INDIE, A VERY MUCH LOVED 3 YEAR OLD CAVOODLE

Early May 2025, I was contacted through my website, by Natalia, asking me if I could paint a painting of her parents’ 3 year old Cavoodle, named Indie.

Natalie was given one of my paintings of her dog, Frankie, in April 2022 and loved the painting so much thought a painting of her parents’ dog would be a good present for her parents’ birthdays.

Indie, from the photos I received, looked like such a beautiful playful dog and I loved painting her with her bright eyes and enlightening face.

This painting is a gift to Grazyna and Jurek from their daughters Natalia, Iwona, Agnieszka and Gosia.

I hope you all enjoy my painting of Indie.

THE PHELAN FAMILY HOME, KILBEGGAN – COUNTRY WESTMEATH – IRELAND

This painting is my second commission by the Phelan family. Both paintings have been of special relevance to the Phelan family, as Kilbeggan in Country Westmeath, Ireland, is where some of the family have lived and grown up in.

This particular painting is for Patrick Phelan, the matriarch of this family, as a gift for him for his 90th birthday.

In January 2025, I was given a few old photos of Patrick Phelans family home in Kilbeggan, as well as a few reference photos. The main photo given to me was a photo taken in 1997 in which the home was very old and dilapidated, and the garden was overgrown. My task/commission was to bring this house back to its original look for Patrick when he was living there.

The family wanted this painting for Patrick as it holds very special memories for him and will hopefully spark the happy times he had in this home and bring them back to life once more.

Thank you again, Phelan Family, for commissioning me and trusting me to paint this very special Irish home, which undoubtedly holds very special memories for Patrick and the Phelan family.

CAFE TERRACE AT NIGHT  – My interpretation of Vincent van Gogh’s Painting

I was commissioned by my friends Natalie and Tony to copy Vincent van Gogh’s painting of the Cafe Terrace at Night. It was the first time that I have copied a great artist and thus a bit of a challenge. I learnt a lot about how van Gogh painted especially that he did not use black at all in this painting.  Van Gogh’s bright colors and the night sky are other elements that I loved to copy in this painting.

Natalie and Tony were rapt with my interpretation and as I have said I love to make people happy with my skill of painting.

SINDY, SHAYE, SAINT, AND GHOST

I was commissioned in January 2022 by Brian King, to paint his daughter Rebecca’ beautiful dogs for her birthday on the 6th of February.

As this painting and present was a surprise for Rebecca for her birthday, I was given a few photos of her dogs, but the main photo was Shaye, Saint, and Ghost in front of a Christmas tree. I had to superimpose Sindy in the photo to make it complete.

I absolutely loved painting Sindy, Shaye, Saint, and Ghost and capturing their cuteness, cheekiness, individual personalities and their loving, gorgeous natures.

Thank you so much Brian, for commissioning me to paint Rebecca’s beautiful dogs, as even though I haven’t met them, I got to know them so much whilst painting them.

THE FARM – BETH AND ADAM’S WEDDING VENUE

I was commissioned by Beth and Adam in February 2022 to paint The Farm, which is a beautiful wedding venue in Warrandyte South. The reason behind this is because Beth and Adam got married there on the 25th of February 2022 and wanted a painting of the venue as a beautiful keep’s sake and reminder of their special day.

Whilst Adam and Beth commissioned me to paint The Farm, my son James, and his girlfriend Madi, said that they will buy it from me and give it to Adam and Beth as their wedding present.

I have loved painting ‘The Farm’ as I have been there many times and know the owner, Rob Dolan. The Farm is local to us and is a very peaceful and picturesque place that we love to go to.

Beth and Adam, I hope you love this painting as a wonderful memory of your wedding day and celebration of your joining of lives together, as a couple, and I know that James and Madi thought that this would be a special wedding gift for you. I hope you look on the painting for many years and it will always put a smile on your faces.

Congratulations with love

I was commissioned in March 2022 by Trevor and Chris Street, to paint their families beautiful pet dogs for Trevor’s wife and Chris’s mum – Helen, as a present for Mother’s Day 2022.

Molly is a Cavoodle and Max is a Moodle and they were born a week apart –    9 years ago.

Trevor and Chris asked if I could paint their two beautiful dogs in their beautiful Park Orchards backyard setting of lots of trees, grass with some paving. I have loved painting Molly and Max and capturing their cuteness, cheekiness, their individual personalities, and their loving, gorgeous natures.

Thank you so much Trevor and Chris, for commissioning me to paint Molly and Max, as even though I haven’t met them, I got to know them so much whilst painting them.

POPPY

I was commissioned in January 2022 by my niece in law Bec, to paint her families beautiful pet dog Poppy. Poppy sadly passed away in December 2021.

This is what Bec wrote on her Instagram page about Poppy – “Earlier this week we said goodbye to our gorgeous girl, Poppy. For 9 years she brought us pure happiness and she gave a whole new meaning to unconditional love. We are beyond devastated but filled with gratitude for the past 9 beautiful years. It’s time for bed, Bubba and we love you so so much.” 10/12/2021

Bec and my nephew David are expecting their first child in June and wanted to put this painting in the baby’s room. I decided to gift this painting to them for their baby’s room and know that she/he will know Poppy from afar.

I have loved painting Poppy and capturing her cuteness, personality, and gorgeous nature.

Thank you so much Bec, for commissioning me to paint Poppy, as even though I had met Poppy, I got to know her so much more.

FRANKIE FOR NATALIA

I was commissioned in March 2022 by Cate to paint Frankie, for her friend Natalia for her birthday. The painting is from a group of Natalia’s friends – Em, Alice, Steph, Lyndal, Sam and obviously Cate.

From what I have been told Frankie is a loving affectionate and a ‘little goofy’ 12-year-old  American Staffy cross who is a loyal companion to Natalia. He has the most beautiful and compelling eyes, especially when he wants to jump on the couch for a cuddle

I have loved painting Frankie and capturing his personality and gorgeous nature.

Title: The Deayton Kids with Attitude.

I was commissioned by my friend Megan’s son, Max to paint an old photo of her three children when they were only kids looking at the horizon whist standing in the water at Cape Tribulation. What I loved about painting was the attitude of Taylah, Todd and Max, the beach scene, and the three reflections of the kids in the sand. I loved the colors in this painting and the kid’s attitude just enjoying the moment and knowing that their Mum Megan would love this photo.

NAWAB KAPUR SINGH (1697 – 1753)

I was commissioned in July 2021 by Gurinder Singh Virk, who asked me to paint his great, great, great grandfather sitting on a horse. I thought this was an interesting request and after a few conversations realized that Nawab Kapur Singh was a Sikh, a King, and the only reference I had was old photos that I could get off the internet and a large canvas print – all of paintings of Nawab from that time.

These comments are from Gurinder and explains why he commissioned this painting: “Nawab Kapur Singh Virk (Singhpuria) was one of the Greatest Sikh leaders in History. He was the founder of the Singhpuria Misl and Dal Khalsa. He was also the first Sikh King under whose leadership the Sikh rule grew manifold.

Being a direct descendant of Nawab Kapur Singh Ji I wanted to get a painting made for our house and was recommended to Di Leeder Artist for the same.”

I have thoroughly enjoyed completing this painting as I love painting horses and the regalia that Nawab and his horse are adorned with.

Thank you so much Gurinder, for commissioning me to paint Nawab Kapur Singh and his beautiful horse for you.  It has been an honor and privilege to paint.

I was commissioned in August 2021 by my beautiful friend Nerida Phelan to paint a landscape of the Brosna River, Kilbeggan which is in Country Westmeath, Ireland, for her brother-in-law, Kevin, as a present for his 60th birthday this year (2021).

Nerida gave me an old photo to paint from, which also included the old Coola Whiskey Distillery. The family wanted this painting for Kevin as it was a very special fishing spot enjoyed by him and his dad. This spot was located close to the Phelan Family home.

CLIVE BRADBURY X 2

I was commissioned in February 2021 by my husband’s great niece, Zoe Bradbury, to paint 2 portraits of her grandfather Clive Bradbury. One of the paintings was for her and one for her grandmother, Pam who was Clive’s wife. Zoe called Clive, Pop, and the photo she gave me was at his second last or last birthday before he passed away.

The challenge for me painting these two paintings was to get them alike as best I could. The paintings are slightly different, but I like that.

Prior to sending Zoe the paintings, I sent her a photograph, and this is her comments: “Thank you so much Auntie Di, I love them.  It’s bought happy tears to my eyes seeing him displayed like that. I’s so happy.  Thank you so much.”

After Zoe received the paintings, she commented that the paintings were even better in person.

Pam received her painting the next day and Zoe said Pam cried when she walked through the door and saw it.

Thank you so much Zoe for commissioning me to paint Clive for you and your Grandmother Pam and giving me the challenge of painting 2 painting from Clive’s photo.

MAYBEL & BEAU

Happy Birthday John Mann.

I was commissioned in June 2021 by my beautiful friend and walking partner Claire to paint her and her families two dogs for her husband, John’s birthday in July. I have known Claire and her family for many years now and they have always had dogs as additional four legered members of their family. Beau, a black and white border collie, is over 10 years old and has so much character and loves his special red scarf/handkerchief around his neck.  Mabel on the other hand is a 14-month-old brown and white Border Collie x Kelpie who I have known since she could start walking with us. Both Mabel and Beau and my two black and white Border Collies, Frankie and Georgia, walk most Wednesdays at the Kangaroo Ground Aqueduct walk.

I have loved painting Mabel and Beau in the background of their home in Kangaroo Ground, Melbourne.  They are sitting on the cement seat that Mabel loves sitting on. Both dogs are so gorgeous, and each has their own character.

Thank you so much Claire for commissioning me to paint Maybel and Beau for your wonderful husband John for his birthday on the 18th of July.

LILAH, A VERY SPECIAL BULLMASTIFF

I was commissioned in October 2020 by Alex Buruma to paint Lilah, for her friends Phoebe and Luke, in memory of their special mate who passed away in August, this year.

This is a transcript given to me by Alex…..

“Lilah was a bullmastiff, adopted by Phoebe and Luke at 8 weeks old after being delivered by Caesarean by Aunty Kate. She had a heart condition but that never slowed her down. She survived cancer operations twice in her life and always bounced back quickly. She had a very long tongue and solid underbite! Lilah loved food, going to the building site with Luke, riding shotgun in his ute, sleeping on the couch and holidays to Inverloch. She had a special groan she made when she was hungry and would shake hands when she wanted something. She was a great running buddy for Phoebe and kept her company working from home. Lilah knew only happiness and positivity; through her eyes the world was a wonderful place. She lived just under 7 years and is now keeping Roxy and Steffi company.

‘Everyone thinks their dog is the best, but we all know it was actually Lilah’. 23/8/2020”

I loved painting Lilah, and as I painted her, her personality came out, which was beautiful. I hope Phoebe and Luke love this painting and smile at her every day, as she watches over you both.

I was commissioned in September 2020 by Kim Jarrett-Blanck to paint this scene of Mitches Jetty at Fishpen, Merimbula for her friend Lisa Jackson-Calvert for her 50th Birthday in December 2020.

Kim told me that Lisa has always had holidays at Merimbula since her childhood/teen years and now Lisa’s own family have continued to holiday there every year, as it is one Lisa’s favorite spots.

I have thoroughly enjoyed painting this for Lisa and hope that she will love it when she sees it in December.

MARCUCCI FAMILY LINKS FAMILY AND THEIR HOME

I was commissioned in July 2020 by Debbie Marcucci to paint this scene of the backs of her family, daughter Alysha, husband Tony, herself, then daughter Karina and son Aiden, all holding hands on their farmland in Yarragon, country Victoria.

Debbie wanted this scene painted in black and white, and obviously many shades of grey. This is the first painting I have completed in black and white and I personally found it challenging but a really cleansing experience.

The original photo Debbie gave me was the family and black and white dog, Bobbie, in a different back drop and so I had to superimpose them into the backdrop that Debbie wanted, which was their farmland and the surrounding mountains that they see every day, and their second dog, Abbie. I had to include the bit of snow on one of the mountains as well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed painting this for Debbie and her family as I have known them since 1991 and know them all very well as well and some of their special characteristics of their personalities that make them, who they truly are.

This is one of my best paintings and I have loved the challenge of painting in black and white and painting my friends.  I hope that the Marcucci Family love this painting as much as I do.

JESSIE – Kates beloved dog

I was commissioned in May 2020 by Alex and her Mum Jackie, to paint Alex’s sister, Kates’ precious dog, Jessie, who passed away earlier this year. The three ladies wanted me to paint Jessie’s painting, with the background similar to how I painted the background in my painting of my Georgia, but on a much smaller canvas. Jackie told me that Jessie used to have this strange way with her mouth and as Alex said, which I thought was a bit harsh, only a mother could love her. LOL

THE BOND BETWEEN A DAD AND HIS SONS

I was commissioned in May 2020 by Kim Jarrett-Blanck to paint this beach scene of her husband, Jeff and their two sons, Jake, and James. The beach is a remote beach on the New South Wales Coast which the family visited on a caravan holiday.  Kim loves this photo and asked me to paint it for her husband, Jeff for his birthday in July. Kim loves this photo of her three special men specially the way Jeff is pointing to something and the boys are looking in that direction with the same interest and passion that Jeff has. I loved the photo too, as it portrays the bond between the three, a father and his two sons.  The way Jeff has his arm around Jake and how James obviously is hanging on to every word Jeff is saying and is looking in the distance to see what his dad is pointing at.

I thank you so much Brad, with commissioning me to paint your two beautiful and cheeky children in their 2016 Christmas gear as a 2017 Christmas surprise present for your wife Amanda.
It was a real privilege to paint Harry and Maddyn and I loved painting them as they made me smile every time I put brush to canvas.

Enjoy your time in Singapore and I hope that looking back at this painting will bring back memories of your years with your family in Melbourne and when Harry and Maddyn were young.

Thank you for having the faith in me to do your family justice and I look forward seeing your adventures in Singapore.

JACOB, REBECCA AND DANIEL YOUNG.

I was asked late July 2017 by Luke Harrington, if I could paint a portrait of Jacob, Rebecca and Daniel Young as a present for Daniel on his 21st birthday. When I heard about the tragic loss of Jacob and how close the three siblings were, I was honored and touched to be asked to paint their portrait.

When I paint a portrait, I get to know every single part of the persons face, hair, expressions, and unique nooks and crannies that make them who they are.  Interestingly, I engage with them and have some sort of connection and get to know the subjects pretty well. To be honest, I like I get to know who I am painting and a bit about their story to be able to be true to them. I also try as best as I can, by the way I paint, to bring the subjects to life.

Daniel, I know nothing can ever bring Jacob back to your family but I hope I have been true to him and you all, with my painting of the three of you. Jacob, will always be watching over you all with his beautiful smile and loving face. I pray I have done you all and Jacob, justice.  Painted with love.

ADRIAN AND KATE

I was commissioned earlier this year by my beautiful niece in law Kate, to paint a painting of my nephew, Adrian,  and Kate for his 40th birthday in June. 2017.

I was so honored to be asked and when I got the photo from Kate couldn’t wait to start.   I started on the 25th of February 2017 and finished on the 26th of May and 70 plus hours later finished their masterpiece. I love painting portraits as with every stroke of the brush I feel and get to know every part of my subjects face and skin and every unique part of their personality.

In this painting, I also loved painting the apple box and chicken wire which to me adds another two dimensions to the painting and to the subjects as a couple. Another dimension of Adrian came out when I painted his shorts pocket (and mobile phone in it), and hence had a few sniggers to myself.

Anyway, I hope they they remember the painting is my interpretation of the photo given to me by Kate and that they love the painting as much as I do.

My friend Sian commissioned me to paint her two children Leith and Isla being natural and cheeky in their local skate park. I loved the photo when I first saw it and I couldn’t wait to start painting it on this 1meter by 1 meter canvas. I love the colors in the ramp, the obscure items on either side of the ramp, the backdrop of trees, the signature graffiti and the two little critters sitting on the top simply makes the painting very interesting and attractive to the eye. This is a painting of Dudley, a loved pet of Pat, a gym friend of mine. Dudley had passed away and Pat wanted a painting of him on her wall.  I loved painting Dudley, because in the photo he had attitude, strength and love that shone out of those “Puppy’s Eyes”.

PUG

I have painted PUG for my niece Alison. Pug was the family pet dog of Karen, Alison’s sister however was loved and shared by Tony (my Brother) Karen’s dad and Alison. When Tony created my art studio, Pug, would come with him and play with my border collie, Georgia. Pug was very loved and cared for by the three families. Sadly Pug is no longer with us however I hope that this painting will bring back great memories and put a loving smile on your face.
